We welcome referrals from other practices

We have a number of visiting vets and specialists who help expand the range of services we offer in-house. This often means that pets with more complicated conditions can continue to be treated in local familiar surroundings. Clients and patients of neighbouring practices, therefore, won’t need to travel to distant referral centres. We welcome referrals from other practices.

What services do we offer as referrals?

At our Sherborne surgery, we host peripatetic services in Cardiology, Ophthalmology and Dermatology regularly, and additionally, we also have our own in-house CT scanner.

Cardiology

Heart Vets brings referral-level cardiology services and support to Newton Clarke Vets. Alex Laver BVSc PgCert VPS CertAVP(VC) MRCVS and Amy Robertson RVN have worked together to develop and grow the Somerset and Dorset branch of Heart Vets. They visit our Sherborne clinic fortnightly, offering cardiology services that include assessment and treatment of congenital and acquired heart diseases, dysrhythmias, and breed-related cardiomyopathies.

Ophthalmology

James is a veterinary ophthalmology specialist and the founder of Clarity Referrals. Clarity Referrals is an independent referral service providing advanced eye care for pets across Dorset, Somerset, and the surrounding regions. James is an internationally recognised, board-certified specialist in veterinary ophthalmology with over 15 years of experience in the field.

Clarity Referrals manages all aspects of veterinary eye disease — from diagnosing complex conditions to performing a comprehensive range of ophthalmic surgeries, including advanced corneal, cataract, eyelid, glaucoma, and reconstructive procedures. Their work is referral-only, supporting local veterinary practices and their clients with the highest level of specialist care and communication.

Dermatology

Dr Peri Lau-Gillard is an RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology and EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology. Peri works from our Sherborne clinic twice a month, offering consultations, investigations and long-term management of complex dermatology cases. Peri also offers a number of procedures, including video-otoscopy and intradermal allergy testing.

Advanced Surgery – Orthopaedic & Soft Tissue

The team at Rata Vets have an abundance of surgical experience, with a reputation spanning 12 years. This allows more challenging surgical procedures to be performed in-house at Newton Clarke Vets. Their team of expert surgeons provide a friendly, amenable and professional service. They offer a comprehensive range of orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries from angular limb deformities to complex tumour removal and soft-tissue reconstruction.

CT Scans

At our Sherborne practice, we have a CT scanner. We happily accept referrals from other practices for outpatient scans. Unless you request otherwise, we send the images to Vet-CT for interpretation. We deliver the report to you, the referring vet, so you can continue treatment at your own practice and maintain continuity of care.

How do we work with clients of other practices and their vet?

As a local practice referring to one of our peripatetic or CT services, we would like to reassure you that we will not register your referred client for first-opinion work with us for the following 12 months.

You can conveniently refer a case via the referral section on our website.
