We have a number of visiting vets and specialists who help expand the range of services we offer in-house. This often means that pets with more complicated conditions can continue to be treated in familiar surroundings instead of travelling to referral centres.
We are also happy to accept referrals from local practices for these services; you can refer a case via the buttons below.
Meet Our Referral Team
Cardiology with Heart Vets
Alex Pack and Amy Robertson worked together to develop and grow the Somerset Heart Vets clinics to bring referral cardiology services and support to Newton Clarke Vets and surrounding first-opinion clinics. They visit the Sherborne clinic fortnightly, offering tailored Specialist-led cardiac investigations, treatment and patient support, as well as teaching and training for the vets and nurses at Newton Clarke Vets. As well as internal patients, they also accept external referrals.
Alex and Amy are also part of the surgical interventions team at Heart Vets, which includes pacemaker implantation, PDA closure, Balloon Valvuloplasty and Pulmonic stenting. They have a fantastic relationship with the whole team at Newton Clarke Vets, sharing the same core values and practical approach to providing individual compassionate patient care, first-class service for owners and unrivalled support for referring vets and colleagues.

Ophthalmology with The Site Vet
Dr Ashley Davies is an RCVS Advanced Practioner in Veterinary Ophthalmology.
Ashley founded The Site Vet, a peripatetic ophthalmology service, in 2019. By working in first-opinion clinics, including Newton Clarke Vets, he ensures that patients have access to a Veterinary Ophthalmologist without having to travel far. This approach also ensures continuity of care between pet owners and their referring vets. As well as providing referral consultations, surgery can be performed for a wide range of conditions involving the eye and eyelid.
As well as treating Newton Clarke Vets’ registered clients, Ashley is happy to take referrals from other local practices.

Please note, we are currently unable to offer BVA eye tests and in-house cataract surgery, though assessment of cataracts and onward referral is available.
Dermatology with Periderm
Dr Peri Lau-Gillard is an RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology and EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology.
Peri graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon in 1996 from the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich, Germany. She moved to the UK in 2000 and worked at two small animal practices in Nottingham as an assistant.
From 2001-2004 Peri worked as a Scholar in Veterinary Dermatology at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket where she gained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology.
In 2005 Peri moved to the southwest and worked for several years as a clinician and teacher at the Dermatology Service at Bristol University. At the beginning of 2011, she started her veterinary dermatology consultancy service in the South West/UK, and in 2012, successfully took the examination to become a Diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Dermatology.
Peri works from our Sherborne clinic twice a month, offering dermatology consultations, work-ups and video-otoscopy for ear flushing.
Orthopaedic & Soft Tissue Surgery with Rata Vets
For some of the more complex surgical cases, we work with Rata Vets, with Clare Catchpole and Ollie Gillman often visiting our practice.
The team at Rata Vets have an abundance of surgical experience, which we can call upon for advice and to allow more challenging procedures to be performed in-house.
Their team of expert surgeons provide a friendly, amenable and professional service, with a reputation spanning 12 years. They offer a comprehensive range of orthopaedic and soft tissue surgical procedures from anal sacculectomy to complex angular limb deformities.

'Rocky' the CT Scanner
Our Sherborne practice is equipped with a CT scanner, affectionately nicknamed ‘Rocky’ (there is a reason behind it, inspired by the film ‘Chicken Run’ – feel free to ask our team!). In addition to the benefits this equipment brings to our own clients, we’re happy to accept referrals for outpatient CT scans. Unless otherwise requested, images will be sent to VetCT for interpretation and these reports will be forwarded to the referring vet, who will be responsible for the follow-up care.
Please feel free to contact us if you’d like to know more about our outpatient CT service.
