Lynn Bartlet

Veterinary Surgeon

BVsc MRCVS

My motivation to become a vet has been a lifelong love of animals.

I trained at Liverpool Vet School qualifying with honours in 1990, then spent 3 years in mixed practice in Worcester and Swanage before working in Malawi, Africa for 2 years where I was involved in training veterinary technicians, developing village animal health programmes, and treating various animals, mainly goats, cattle and chickens along with the occasional dog and pig. On returning to the UK I decided to specialise in small animal care and worked in Weymouth and London before joining a veterinary practice in Castle Cary where I spent the next 23 years of my career.

I love my job and my aim is to deliver veterinary care which is carefully tailored to suit the needs of each individual owner and their animal. I am just as happy meeting pets and their owners for routine health reviews and helping sort out various minor ailments and injuries as getting involved complex and challenging investigations and surgeries.

Away from work I am involved in various community and environmental projects, and I am particularly impressed by Newton Clarke Vets’ efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and become as sustainable as possible; solar panels, meticulous sorting of waste into various recycling streams, specialised equipment and techniques to reduce the volume of anaesthetic gas used, and careful choice of medications to minimise the risk of contributing towards antibiotic resistance and environmental damage. I have just joined the practice and have been made very welcome by the whole team and I am looking forward to the next chapter of my veterinary life.
